Sustainable Technology Centre

I was pleased to be invited to recently open the Sustainable Technology Centre, based in the Halbeath Campus of Carnegie College.  This is a purpose-built Centre with the latest equipment for training technicians and installers in environmentally friendly technology.

As a Chartered Engineer, I am delighted to see Carnegie College at the forefront of training provision. The College and its staff are committed to equipping the workforce here in Fife with skills for long-term employment in the rapidly changing renewable energy sector.

This sector is in an unprecedented stage of growth in Scotland.  It provides exciting opportunities for businesses and the economy. Just as importantly, in drawing from renewable resources we minimise the impact on our environment for the benefit of future generations.

Initially, the Sustainable Technology Centre will specialise in BEPEC-accredited short courses aimed at updating the skills of electricians, plumbers and heating engineers.  It will concentrate on such things as housing insulation, solar heating panels, photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate your own electricity and air source heat pumps.

I again congratulate Carnegie College in their vision and wish them, and their students, every success.
