North American Pipe Band to Perform in Glen

A North American 100-strong pipe band will perform at Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline on 3^rd August, as part of their Jubilee Tour of Scotland.

Can-Am will play outside the Louise Carnegie Gates at 1pm, before marching through the Glen for a 2pm performance outside Pittencrieff House Museum.

Dunfermline MSP Bill Walker wished Can-Am a successful visit:

“I hope the weather stays fair for them and their performance goes well.

“It’s great to have a talented pipe band visiting Dunfermline from distant shores, and I trust they will enjoy their visit. I’m sure it will be a very enjoyable occasion for all, and I hope Can-Am can fulfil their ambition of making regular visits to Dunfermline.

“Good luck to them in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.”

Thomas Moffat, Director of Visit Dunfermline, has worked with Can-Am over the last year, after the band made a trip to Dunfermline to see whether it was a suitable venue.

Mr Moffat said: “We intend to forge stronger links with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and other overseas bands to market Dunfermline as an ideal venue for a bigger pipe band event next year, in the build up to  2014, when Dunfermline will be the focus of national attention on the 700^th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.

“One of the reasons Can-Am chose Dunfermline was its rich history, including it being the final resting place of King Robert the Bruce, and we hope this will increase Dunfermline’s appeal as a tourist venue”.

Don Piper, spokesman for Can-Am, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to come over and perform in the ancient capital of Scotland. The band is excited at the prospect of playing here, and we are working towards making this an annual event. We will be performing in Glasgow in the World Pipe Band Championships and will be encouraging other bands at that event to join us in Dunfermline next year”.
