Dunfermline students encouraged to apply for Lloyds Scholars Programme

scholarsLocal MSP Bill Walker is encouraging prospective students in Dunfermline to apply to the Lloyds Scholars Programme 2013/14 before the closing date of 1st July.

Lloyds Scholars supports young people from families with below average income to get into some of Britain’s top universities.  It provides students with a complete package of financial and vocational support, including paid internships, access to a dedicated Lloyds mentor and volunteering opportunities in the local community.

All 11 eligible Scholars from the first cohort were offered a place on the Lloyds Banking Group Graduate Leadership programme.

Mr Walker said: “I would encourage young people in Dunfermline to investigate whether they might be eligible for this programme. The criteria can be viewed on the Lloyds Scholars website. This looks like an excellent opportunity, and there is nothing to lose in applying.”

The universities currently partnering the programme are Bath, Birmingham Bristol, Edinburgh, UCL, Oxford, Sheffield and Warwick.

Applicants for the 2013/14 intake must:
o    Have a residual household income of under £25,000 pa
o    Be UK residents or EU students currently residing in the UK
o    Start the first year of their degree in Sept/Oct 2013
o    Have a confirmed offer from one of the partner universities
o    And be on a three or four year undergraduate degree course of almost any discipline (although the programme is not suitable for vocational degrees such as medicine)
