Minibus Funding for Scouts Benefits the West Fife Villages

The 83^rd Fife Scout Group has received funding of £15,375 for a new 17-seater minibus, which is already bringing West Fife communities closer together.

Dunfermline MSP Bill Walker, also local councillor for West Fife and Coastal Villages, said:

“I was delighted to hear of this award. Lack of public transport between the villages can be an issue in West Fife, so this is excellent news for the many local groups who will also be using the minibus. It will enable people to participate in a wide range of community activities.”

The minibus is now available to groups in the 15 West Fife Villages and has been used by youth clubs, playgroups and elderly clubs, among others. As minibuses are exempt from requiring ‘car’ seats, transportation of young children is easier, while passengers can be kept safe with adjustable seatbelts.

Over 50 young volunteers have also received driver training in the minibus, which is doubling up as an information service, complete with DVD player and roof-mounted monitor.

Mr Walker added: “LEADER is one of a number of funding initiatives, such as the Big Lottery Fund, that I encourage community groups in West Fife to consider.

“Specifically, it is part of the Scotland Rural Development Programme and supports innovative projects created by and run by rural communities. Local people know best what their communities need, and LEADER helps them bring their ideas to fruition.”
