Dunfermline MSP Bill Walker Signs ‘Yes Scotland’ Independence Declaration
28/05/2012
The cross-party, Scotland-wide Independence campaign has officially launched — and Dunfermline MSP Bill Walker has pledged his support by signing the declaration on the new Yes Scotland website.
The declaration, which has already attracted well over 10,000 signatures, begins: “I believe that it is fundamentally better for us all, if decisions about Scotland’s future are taken by the people who care most about Scotland, that is, by the people of Scotland.”
Mr Walker said: “It gives me great pleasure to sign this declaration. I am fully committed to achieving an independent Scotland, and I look forward to full and informed debate in the run up to the referendum.
“I agree wholeheartedly that the people of Scotland are indisputably the best people to make the decisions for Scotland, rather than a physically and increasingly politically distant parliament in Westminster.
“The Yes Scotland website is packed with interesting and insightful contributions from people right across modern Scottish society, setting out why they believe Independence is the vital path to a brighter and better Scotland — young Scots, new Scots, women, people from the arts, business leaders and the labour movement.
“The people of Scotland can read these contributions for themselves and decide whether they, too, would like to sign the Yes declaration.”
The Yes Scotland website is available at www.yesscotland.net. Sections include a news blog, regional updates and ways to get involved. The Yes declaration is available in the ‘Participate’ menu.
