London Olympics
26/07/2012
When London won the bid for the 2012 Olympics, I feared a massive drain of taxpayers’ money to the southeast of England. Although some football matches will be held in Glasgow and we have some sub-contract work, I regret that my concerns have been proved right, with little benefit coming to Scotland.
Now we have the shambles of the security arrangements and other last-minute issues emerging. Despite the UK Government having seven years to plan the Olympics, until a few weeks ago they allegedly had no idea that Group 4 Securicor, now more snappily known as G4S, has completely dropped the ball with a huge shortfall of security staff. Very difficult to believe.
However, I do hope the Games will eventually go smoothly, and I wish our Scottish athletes all the success they have trained so hard for.
