Question S4W-10763: UN International Day of the Girl Child
02/11/2012
Bill Walker: To ask the Scottish Government what its position is on the first UN International Day of the Girl Child, which took place on 11 October 2012.
Date Lodged: 31/10/2012
Answered by Aileen Campbell (Minister for Children and Young People) (12/11/2012): The Scottish Government is supportive of any activity which raises awareness and understanding of children’s rights.
Scottish Ministers are committed to ensuring the well-being of each and every child in Scotland. This means keeping children safe from all forms of harm and exploitation and supporting them to be healthy, active, respected and responsible members of our society. The National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland, published in 2010, includes information to support professionals in identifying and addressing concerns, including where forced marriage is an issue.
