Asda Dunfermline Halbeath offers diabetes tests

Asda is now offering free diabetes tests to shoppers at its Halbeath store and in all Asda in-store pharmacies across Scotland.

MSP for Dunfermline Bill Walker said: “I would encourage people to take advantage of the free diabetes testing being offered at Asda’s in Halbeath.  Many people suffer with undiagnosed diabetes, and I hope this number can be reduced throughout Scotland as a result of the service.

“What’s more, I hope this innovative approach will raise awareness regarding lifestyle choices that can be adopted to delay or prevent the onset of diabetes.”

No appointment is necessary for the quick and easy test – customers can simply drop into the pharmacy during their weekly shop. All pharmacies are open seven days a week, including bank holidays, and are open late Monday to Saturday.

The process, carried out by trained pharmacy colleagues, involves a blood glucose test indicating if the customer is at risk of diabetes.

If further action is required, the customer will be referred to their local GP for further testing, or be asked to return to the pharmacy one morning for an ‘overnight fasting’ test.

In addition, Asda pharmacy staff can offer lifestyle advice and further information to customers.
