Question S4W-06446: Hydroelectric Schemes

Bill Walker: To ask the Scottish Executive what incentives are in place to encourage the implementation of run-of-river hydroelectric schemes in West Fife and the rest of the country.

Date Lodged: 26/03/2012

Answered by Fergus Ewing (Minister for Energy Enterprise and Tourism) (01/05/2012): The Renewables Obligation (Scotland) is Scotland’s main incentive for renewable electricity generation. It includes support for hydropower installations.

The Scottish Government has also ensured that Scotland can benefit from the UK wide Feed-in Tariff for renewable energy schemes of less than 5 MW, including micro-hydro. The Feed-in Tariff came into force on 1 April 2010.
