Retail Giant H&M’s Dunfermline Job Boost
18/07/2012
MSP Bill Walker has welcomed confirmation that the clothing giant H&M will create up to 30 new jobs in Dunfermline.
The fashion retailer’s latest store is due to launch on 30th August in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre. It will occupy over 11,840 sq ft of retail space on two levels of the recently refurbished mall.
Dunfermline MSP Mr Walker said: “This is great news for Dunfermline in terms of jobs, city centre regeneration and consumer choice. H&M will bring a range of full-time and part-time opportunities for people at different levels of retail experience, as well as offering greater variety for shoppers from Dunfermline and surrounding areas.
“I hope this is a sign that things are picking up. As well as H&M, Dunfermline recently saw the arrival of Matalan in Carnegie Drive Retail Park, plus the huge Amazon fulfilment centre in Halbeath. We’ve also had the launch of city centre hospitality establishments such as Reubens, the Green Room and the Guildhall and Linen Exchange, a Wotherspoons superpub.
“It’s extremely encouraging that Dunfermline is viewed by businesses as a place where they are keen to set up, especially on the back of a recent gloomy prediction that a quarter of Scottish shops risk folding over the next year, a situation not helped by the Westminster Coalition’s austerity cuts.
“I look forward to more businesses establishing themselves here in Dunfermline.”
