MSP Bill Walker hopes new Tesco will aid regeneration of Dunfermline

begjune2013 013Local MSP Bill Walker has welcomed confirmation that Tesco hopes to open its new store on Carnegie Drive, Dunfermline, by autumn 2014.

Speaking at a public exhibition of the proposed store, the Dunfermline MSP said:

“The people of Dunfermline have waited a long time for the new Tesco, so I very much hope there will be no further delays. Tesco say they don’t anticipate any problems when they submit a new planning application in autumn this year, as permission for their original proposal was previously granted. Read more of this post

Police station site could be possible location for new city centre hotel

Dunfermline stationDunfermline MSP Bill Walker has drawn attention to the need for further hotel capacity in Dunfermline city centre, suggesting the current police station as a possible location.

He said: “Strenuous efforts are being made to promote Dunfermline as a tourism destination. We are about to undergo a £1m city centre regeneration, plus a multi-million pound flagship museum and art gallery is planned for the heritage quarter. The new Forth Replacement Crossing, on target to open in 2016, will make Dunfermline effectively the gateway to Fife, encouraging visitors to enjoy our many attractions such as Abbot House, the Carnegie Hall, the Alhambra, Pittencrieff Park and so on. Bruce Festival

The Bruce Festival has become an eagerly anticipated event on Fife’s cultural calendar. As well as being an enjoyable weekend of festivities, it delivers a significant boost to the local economy here in Dunfermline.

This year’s Festival promises to be the most spectacular so far. On the 25th and 26th of August, an expected 20,000 visitors will flock to our city centre and Glen to enjoy such entertainment as a re-created medieval village and a Bruce family treasure hunt. Retail Giant H&M’s Dunfermline Job Boost

MSP Bill Walker has welcomed confirmation that the clothing giant H&M will create up to 30 new jobs in Dunfermline.

The fashion retailer’s latest store is due to launch on 30th August in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre. It will occupy over 11,840 sq ft of retail space on two levels of the recently refurbished mall. Read more of this post
