Dunfermline School Children Recipients of Big Lottery Awards

Schoolchildren from Dunfermline are the latest to benefit from Big Lottery grants, aimed at encouraging involvement in sports.

Five primary schools and Dunfermline Athletic Girls Football Club received awards totalling £7,758. Four of the schools — Blairhall, Wellwood, Milesmark and Pittencrieff — will use their funding for Olympics-themed sports, while Cairneyhill Primary School aims to provide a wide range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, including those with significant additional support needs.

Meanwhile, Dunfermline Athletic Girls FC aims to accommodate more girls in football by holding school taster sessions and club coaching.

Local MSP Bill Walker welcomed the news:

“This is great news for Dunfermline children. I’m pleased they are being encouraged to stay healthy and are getting this opportunity to try new things.

“Our local community has enjoyed many grants from the Big Lottery Fund, and I would encourage local groups to be aware of the various sources of funding available to support their activities and to get their projects up and running.”

The latest awards were made under the 2014 Communities micro grants programme, which offers local sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, community councils and schools grants of £300 to £2,000 to support and stimulate grass roots involvement in sports and physical activity.
