Dunfermline Reign Basketball Club receives Lottery funding

Big Lottery FundDunfermline Reign Basketball Club has received a £1,837 award from the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme.

The Reign, home of Fife’s only national and local league basketball team, provides basketball development for youths and adults in the Dunfermline area. They will use the award to organise five competition evenings for four high school teams from Dunfermline.

Bill Walker, MSP for Dunfermline, said: “Congratulations to the Dunfermline Reign Basketball Club. It’s good to see young people being encouraged to keep healthy and active.

“The 2014 Communities programme is intended to build a legacy of well-being in the run up to Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and beyond.

“Our community is very fortunate in having lots of excellent sporting resources, such as Dunfermline Reign Basketball Club, the Carnegie Leisure Centre, Riding for the Disabled, Pitreavie Amateur Athletics Club, The Scottish Water Ski Association, and much more.

“Many of these have received funding from community grants programmes such as the Big Lottery Fund, and I would encourage other groups to apply.”

The project meets the 2014 Communities programme outcomes of “More people volunteer in sport or physical activity” and “More people and communities are brought together through taking part or volunteering in sport or physical activity”.
