S4M-05349: Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra Returns for Fife Jazz Festival

That the Parliament is delighted to welcome the Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra on its second visit from Sweden to perform at the Fife Jazz Festival in February 2013, where it will once more collaborate with the award-winning Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra (FYJO) and also with the saxophonist and FYJO graduate, Helena Kay; extends its warmest welcome to the other international musicians taking part in the festival, including Sweden’s Norrbotten Big Band, the New York pianist and singer, Champian Fulton, blues musician and son of the late Muddy Waters, Mud Morganfield and Finland’s Erja Lyytinen, and wishes all the international and home-grown musicians and attendees a very enjoyable festival.

Cairneyhill Youth Jazz Orchestra Award

Young jazz enthusiasts from Cairneyhill have secured a grant to attend the Islay Jazz Festival to deliver a workshop for local children. The tutoring will be delivered by recently qualified instructors from the Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra (FYJO), after the group received an Awards for All grant of £1450.

S4M-03521: Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra Success and Workshop

That the Parliament congratulates the Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra (FYJO) on receiving an Awards for All grant of £1,450 from Creative Scotland; understands that the orchestra, which is based in Cairneyhill in Dunfermline, will use the grant to attend the Islay Jazz Festival in September 2012 and deliver a jazz workshop for local children using recently qualified FYJO tutors; believes that young people should be encouraged to take part in such beneficial recreational activities, and wishes the FYJO an enjoyable and productive festival attendance and workshop on Islay.
